After being drafted second overall by the Detroit Lions, Aidan Hutchinson arrived at the team's practice facility.

The Michigan native was accompanied by his family as he walked around the building, soaking in the moment.

It isn't the hype that's standing out to coaches, teammates and members of the Lions organization, it's his serious approach in trying to successfully transition from an All-American at Michigan

He's been busy. Last night, I told my wife. I was happy to hear that he was quietly getting better. He doesn't speak. Dan Campbell said he listens during mini camp.

The place where things stand with the team.

• Evaluating Russell Wilson, Broncos

• Aidan Hutchinson already impressing Lions

• Dennis Allen 'keeping the DNA the same'

• Dick Vermeil's unconventional HOF career

He's a sponge in there. He listens to what is said. He watches how things are done and how the coaches want them to be done. Every day he learns something. You don't have to pay much attention to it. That is something I like about him. Growth is in front of us every day.

A former Ohio State star is next to Hutchinson. Cornell kept an eye on him during the off-season to see if the attention was justified.

He was able to show me his abilities. I wanted to know how good you are at pass-rushing. Cornell said that during the second or third practice, he said, "you're legit." He can go from inside to outside. He is a legitimate player. I think he is ready for this league and I think he is great for this defensive line.

He said that he was on his stuff all the time. As a first timer, I feel like you get this fat playbook and it all comes at you at once. He showed that he was ready.

Being able to learn from a diverse coaching staff of former players is one of the things that is helping Hutchinson so far. He is watching how veterans work in his room.

Brockers has been with the Rams and Lions for nine years. He said he was impressed by Hutchinson's large frame and felt he would fit in nicely with the Lions' system.

Brockers said that he was going to keep getting better. He is a man who is ready to learn. He's very absorbent. He's going to pick it up. He has his own niches about him, but I am very excited to have him on this team.

Hutchinson is still learning the game. Adjusting to the strength and speed of the game is one area that Campbell would like to see improved from Hutchinson.

Hutchinson is getting ready for his first NFL training camp.

Hutchinson said he was excited for the season. We have the right chemistry for success at the moment.
