A vegan subscription service has a lot of explaining to do after a number of people reported stomach issues and organ failure after consuming the plant-based foodstuff.
The Daily Harvest vegan smoothie and victuals company issued a statement recalling its French Lentil + Leek Crumbles because they were, as the announcement put it, "causing gastrointestinal issues" in some customers.
For weeks, Daily Harvest customers had been taking to social media to talk about their strange conditions after eating the crumbles.
According to NBC News, one of the sufferers said that he went to the hospital after consuming the Daily Harvest crumbleds.
The surgeons that looked at me were so confused that they considered removing my gallbladder.
The company's social media response left a lot to be desired.
NBC noted that accounts that claimed to be associated with Daily Harvest began to respond to customer complaints as early as last Wednesday, despite the fact that the company had issued a recall on Sunday.
The company didn't make a dedicated post about the recall until this week, which included language similar to the announcement on its website.
The language the company used made it sound less severe than the accounts from customers who were unhappy and had their gallbladders removed.
They describe it as ~gastrointestinal issues~ which makes it sound like a bad tummy ache instead of near death/permanent organ damage/thousands of dollars in hospital bills

Daily Harvest is working with the FDA to figure out what happened with the crumbles.
If eaten in large quantities, lentils can cause side effects such as gas to nausea and vomiting. If lectin-rich foods are eaten raw and in large quantities, this isn't a problem.
Until the FDA weighs in and either it or Daily Harvest announces the results of its investigation, we don't know why those lentil crumbles gave so many people such serious side effects.
It's a good idea to throw out any Daily Harvest stuff you have in your freezer.
