The right to an abortion was overturned by the Supreme Court today. The court voted 6-3 to reverse the lower court's decision in the case of Jackson Women's Health Organization.
According to the ruling, the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.
After a draft of the ruling was obtained by Politico in May, the decision was widely expected. There are 22 US states that have "trigger laws" in place that will automatically institute new restrictions in response to the ruling.
Privacy groups are concerned about the collection and trade of location data that could be used to identify people visiting reproductive care facilities. There have been attempts to limit the sale of this data in the run up to the ruling. There has been renewed interest in remote or do-it-yourself abortion treatments.
