The Northern Hemisphere continued to sizzle with extreme heat as the start of summer more resembled the dog days of August

A heat dome of triple digit temperatures and high humidity can be found in the United States. According to the National Weather Service, at least eight states hit 100 degrees and at least nine high temperature marks were set or broken.

On Wednesday, 12 states broke the 100 degree mark and 21 records were broken. More than 100 automated weather stations have broken hot- temperature records. Climate change can be seen in this early baking.

It's easy to forget how bad these figures are. Andrew Dessler, a Texas A&M climate scientist, said that people who can't afford air conditioning and people who work outside have only one option, to suffer. We are prisoners of the indoors, even though we have air conditioning.

Chicago has changed its cooling rules.

The temperature went from 64 degrees to 105 in 9 hours. The temperature on Thursday was a new record for the day. On Monday, even Minneapolis reached 100.

The Pacific Northwest and Northeast have probably been spared from the heat wave. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Arizona and California all hit 100. The same states joined each other on Wednesday.

Chenard said it was persistent. It has been over a week and it is going to continue.

It's not limited to the US.

The Russian city of Norilsk was the hottest city in the world in June and tied for the hottest month on record. Turpan, China, hit 114 degrees (46 degrees Celsius) in June, making it the hottest city in Japan. He doesn't have time to eat or sleep because he tracks broken records and the heat.

There have been fires in Germany and Spain.

Victor Gensini is a meteorology professor at Northern Illinois University.

We are on track for 4 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) more warming over this century with only 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degree Celsius) of global warming. I can't think of how bad that will be.

Usually Raleigh only gets one 100 degree day a year, but on Wednesday it hit 100 and it came much later than that.

Many people in the southeastern US can't afford to use their home cooling systems. In a changing climate, heat morbidity and mortality is our greatest public health risk.

The north central part of the country could see some cooling by the weekend or Monday. He said it is likely that the entire summer will be hotter than normal.
