Two people died after an electric car made by Nio fell three floors in Shanghai on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the two people were test driving one of Nio's cars when the incident occurred. One of the people was a Nio employee.

Chaos appears to be shown at the scene of the accident in photos shared on social media.

"Based on the analysis of the situation at the scene, it can be preliminarily confirmed that it was an accident and not related to the vehicle itself," Nio said. It said that investigations are ongoing.

The company did not say what happened. The car fell as a test-drive area, a car park, or a showroom, according to various media reports. Nio did not reply immediately.

According to the South China Morning Post, the car involved in Wednesday's incident appeared to be a model with self- driving technology.

One of the Nio vehicles was involved in a fatal accident. In August, a Chinese businessman died after his Nio ES8 rear-ended another vehicle on a highway.

Nio is a premium car brand that focuses on self-driving cars. It is often seen as a competitor toTesla. In New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Nio is listed.

Nio was questioned about his handling of the incident.

Nio was responsible for ensuring that the environment was safe for the test drive, according to a Weiboinfluencer. The car wasn't tested in a designated area. There weren't any protection facilities. He asked if employees received safety training.
