Two people were killed when a car fell from the third floor of the company's headquarters.

Two people died in the crash, one of them a member of staff.

The incident happened on Wednesday at 17:30 local time. There were people inside the vehicle when it fell.

Nio started an investigation after co-operating with the government.

The thirdstorey area from where the car fell has been described as a showroom, a testing facility or a car park.

The investigation and analysis of the cause of the accident has been launched by our company. The company said in a statement that the accident was not caused by the vehicle.

We are very sad about this accident and our deepest sympathies go out to our colleague and partner employee who died. The team has been set up to help the families.

Within half an hour, Nio's initial statement had attracted more than a thousand comments, but was taken down.

"Not related to the vehicle itself" was the last sentence of the statement.

One comment said that it showed the cold blood of capitalism, while another said that the last sentence was so indifferent. Do you think the accident has anything to do with the vehicle?

Another user said that it should be the public security bureau to confirm if it is an accident or not.

The revised version of the statement still refers to the crash as an accident but no has not caused by the vehicle. The comments to the new post are no longer valid.

China's home grown drive to dominate the electric vehicle industry is being led by Nio. It bet a lot on interchangeable batteries in its cars to overcome customer concerns about frequent charging.

The company has been referred to as China's "Tesla killer" due to its rivalry with the US-based electric car maker.
