The Detroit Pistons acquired veteran guard Kemba Walker from the New York Knicks as part of a three team trade involving the Charlotte Hornets that also saw the Pistons acquire the draft rights to Jalen Duren on Thursday night.
According to sources, Walker and the Pistons will discuss a contract buyout that will allow him to be a free agent.
According to Bobby Marks, the expiring salary of Walker is $9.2 million. Marks reported that Walker is likely to go into the trade exception once the Pistons finalize dealing with Grant.
In February, the Knicks and Walker agreed that he would be out for the rest of the season to work out. Walker battled knee soreness in January and was dropped from the Knicks' playing rotation in late November.
In 37 games last season, Walker averaged 11 points and three assists.
Duren was traded from the Hornets to the Pistons for a first-round pick in the 20th century. Duren averaged 12 points, 8.1 rebound and 2.3 blocks as a freshman.
