Pelosi said at a press conference six days after the attack on the Capitol that Congress would move forward with impeachment proceedings if Trump and his cabinet didn't remove him from office. The power to remove a president from office is given to the vice president by the 25th Amendment. In a letter to Pelosi on January 12 he said he was shocked and sad by the events of January 6, but he didn't think using the 25th amendment would be in the best interest of the nation. On January 13th, the House impeached Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, making him the first president to ever be impeached twice. The Senate voted 57-43 to convict Trump, but that fell well short of the two-thirds vote needed to convict him.

What To Watch For

The fifth hearing of the January 6 Committee on their investigation into the attack on the Capitol is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., and will focus on Trump's efforts to use the Department of Justice to investigate baseless claims of voter fraud. The final hearings were delayed due to the need to review new evidence. He said in a statement that he would give a deposition before the committee on Thursday.

I had no agenda in mind when I made this. The purpose of the statement was to better understand who the Trumps were and what motivated them to hold onto power. We have complied with the Committee's requests and handed over everything they asked for.

The hearings were delayed due to new evidence, including tapes of the Trump family.

The next committee hearings will take place on January 6.

The 25th amendment will not be used to remove Trump.
