In a new tell-all memoir, the former second-in-command at NASA has aired a lot of the agency's dirty laundry, including fights with the man who now helms it.

During her time as NASA's deputy administrator, she dealt with vile sexism from her coworkers, as well as passive aggressive behavior from Administrator Nelson.

At the center of Garver and Nelson's bad blood, she claims, is a familiar Futurism character.

Retelling History

The former deputy administrator wrote that it was she who spearheaded NASA's public-private partnership with SpaceX, known as the Commercial Crew Program, which drew a lot of internal ire, including from Nelson.

Nelson was the leader of the opposition to Commercial Crew. After Musk claimed that he could help NASA, the senator shouted at her to get her son in line.

Nelson isn't fond of the billionaire and his private spaceflight company, but he is doing his best to wrap himself in the Commercial Crew flag, according to Garver.

Transformations

To their credit, Musk hasn't made it easy with his erratic behavior and arrogance, and these claims confirm that.

Garver said that her story is difficult to separate from the one of the SpaceX CEO.

She said she wouldn't have pulled off much of a transformation at NASA without him.

NASA tells all about the private space race.

He's Flown In is a comparison of NASA, the SpaceX, and the Russian space craft.
