The Boring Company applied to build a tunnel underneath the Gigafactory. An application for a building was filed with the city of Austin.
The new document states that there is a proposal for a private access tunnel. The location of the project is on the north end of the Giga complex. The tunnel would be about two miles in length.
The site was identified as being within 100 feet of a 100 year floodplain in the filing. The Colorado River is near the Gigafactory. It seems like nothing could happen because of Musk's knowledge of how underground tunnels are impacted by surface weather conditions. This is an example of Exhibit A.
The subways are flooded all the time. It doesn't have to be a 100 year flood. After a few hours of rain, my stop gets dicey.
The headquarters of Boring was relocated to Texas in 2020. The first plan that has progressed to a building permit application is the proposed tunnel.
The intent of the Texas tunnel isn't clear from the application. It's possible that it's a pilot site for some mysterious new technology, an underground lair, a pedestrian walkway, or another Boring car tunnel.
The only operational loop is under the Vegas convention center and the company has big plans to expand in Nevada.
The big Las Vegas loop plans were approved last week. The company said the system of tunnels would be more than 30 miles.
