She had been a fan of tiny houses for a long time. She has been following different pages on social media and watching US reality-TV shows about tiny houses.

The man wanted to build a house out of shipping containers and had been looking for land for a long time. She said that he discovered the plot after they met.

She said they spent the equivalent of about 97 cents per quarter on water.

She said that the running costs were low because of insulation and the energy- and water-saving appliances they used.

We don't buy things that we don't need. We keep our possessions small and ask ourselves a lot of questions before buying it.

She said that the idea of downsizing is hard to put into practice.

Local authorities and banks make it difficult for people to build tiny houses. Banks won't give you a loan for a tiny house if you don't have enough money to pay it off, she said.

The couple said that even though they could see themselves spending their lives in the tiny house, there were still some things they didn't like.

"We get in each other's way when cooking." Otherwise the tiny house seems even smaller, so we have to clean up more often.

She said she would like to get some noise-canceling headphones as the rooms in the tiny house are open and you can't just close a door if the other person is being loud.

The couple spent a lot of money on their tiny house. If we hadn't done a lot ourselves and had help from friends and family, we'd probably have ended up spending about $90,000.

She thinks tiny houses are not a fad. The minimalist lifestyle is the best option if the cost of living continues to increase.
