A burial believed to hold remains wrapped in cloth alongside ceramics and fine ornaments has been found under a home in the heart of the city of Arequipa.

The tomb contained a number of funerary bundles wrapped in cloth, according to the archeologist.

He said that the people entombed were from the elite of the society that once existed in the area.

The Inca were defeated by the Spanish in 1532.

Hipolito Tica said he was overcome with emotion when he heard about the find. I think it is amazing. He hopes that future generations in the working class San Juan de Lurigancho neighbourhood will appreciate the rich history around them.

Tica's plans to build on his property triggered an archeological survey. Hundreds of archaeological finds from cultures that developed before and after the Inka can be found in the district of L.A.
