It's beyond amazing. Austin Hays was the sixth player in Orioles history to hit for the cycle.

After Hays' sixth-inning double in the midst of a steady shower, play was stopped for good in Baltimore's victory over the Washington Nationals.

Hays was batting leadoff and was given the night off. Hays hit a solo shot in the third, tripled in the fourth and had an infield single in the first.

That gave the outfielder plenty of time to hit the double that would make him the third Oriole in history to join the Hall of Fame.

There was a chance that the game would be stopped in the middle of the fifth.

It was unclear if we were going to finish the game or not. I didn't know if I would get the chance with more rain.

After the 44-minute delay it rained again. Hays hit a double to center off Steve Cishek in the sixth to complete the cycle.

Hays thought it was crazy. I was considering it. The middle of the plate was something I was thinking about. Right there, Cishek hung a pitch.

Hays smiled broadly as he stood in the rain.

He said it was a great feeling. oosebumps hit me at second base.

The tarp never came off after Baltimore scored four runs.
