The four-time major winner said Wednesday that some of the players who have defected to the rival golf series are "duplicitous" for backing out of their commitments to the tour.
Speaking to reporters at a news conference ahead of this week's Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, he said he was bothered that some players made an about-face after promising loyalty to the tour.
I'm surprised. He said yes, because of what he had previously said. A lot of these guys are surprised because they say one thing and then do another. I have no idea if that is for legal reasons or if they can't. It is duplicitous on their part to say one thing and then do another thing.
The whole way through, he said, when asked if he was referring to the comments from two years ago. All of it in public and private.
The LIV Golf circuit is led by two-time Open Championship winner Greg Norman. The first LIV Golf event in the US will take place next week in Portland, Oregon.
The 19-year-old golfer criticized reporters for asking him questions about LIV Golf, saying it cast a "black cloud" over the U.S. Open.
"I'm here at the U.S. Open." I'm ready to play the U.S. Open, but I think it's kind of sucks, you're all throwing this black cloud over it. The event is one of my favorites. I'm not sure why you guys are doing that. The more legs you give, the more people talk about it.
