The basketball tournament will feature former National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette, potential top 10 NBA draft picks and two brothers.
There are a record 71 players with NBA experience, as well as 29 college alumni teams, in the 64th edition of the Tournament of Basketball Teams.
For the first time in the event's history, the games will be played outdoors as one of the regionals is being hosted at a historic park. Omaha, Nebraska, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Wichita, Kansas, Syracuse, New York, Charleston, West Virginia, and Cincinnati are the other regional cities.
Jon Mugar said that this year's field is exciting. We set out to be the home for high stakes, open to all basketball, pitting people against one another from all walks of life. The field shows how far we have come. It is a diverse group of people. I'm looking forward to seeing what team wins six straight games.
The winning team will get $1 million.
Jimmer Fredette, who was selected 10th overall in the NBA draft, is one of the headliners on The Money Team.
Fredette said he would play again and have fun. TJ Fredette is a part of that. It should be a lot of fun to play basketball again.
Fredette and his wife welcomed their third child while he stayed home for the winter and spring. He is joining a team that made it to the quarterfinals last season and features some of the best players in the game.
Fredette said he felt good. I worked out all day. I will keep working on my game. I'm really looking forward to playing in front of some fans.
Team Fredette was led in the tournament in scoring by Fredette who scored 41 points.
He said it was always good. It is just about trying to win. Doing what it takes to move forward. I was the leading scorer at the last tournament. It's about surviving and moving forward. The goal is to win these games and move on. Get towards that million.
Fredette's team is the top seed in the region. Other 1-seeds include YGC, Gutter Cats, Heartfire, AfterShocks, Boeheim's Army, and Best Virginia.
The first title was won by Notre Dame Fighting Alumni. Carmen's Crew, a team of Ohio State alumni, won the last four titles before Overseas Elite's streak ended. The Golden Eagles Alumni won the title in 2020.
Boeheim's Army will defend its title this summer by adding five-time champion D.J. Kennedy and four-time champion De to its roster.
Team Overtime is a squad put together by the sports media company Overtime and features projected lottery picks Amen and Ausar Thompson. The Thompson twins and another projected draft pick played for Overtime in the past season. It will be the first time that NBA draft-eligible prospects will participate in the team. The Omaha region has a 6 seed overtime.
Sideline Cancer has made it to the quarterfinals in the past. They add former South Dakota State star Mike Daum and veteran NBA player C.J.Miles.
Zhaire Smith of the Air Raiders is expected to play in this year's TBR.
The winner of the title game will get $1 million and will be shown on the sports network. The championship game will be held at Dayton.
