The private Dream Chaser space plane might have just opened up for a landing.
Sierra Space signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Spaceport America that could pave the way for Dream Chaser to land at the New Mexico facility.
The two entities are trying to get a license from the FAA for Dream Chaser landings. Sierra Space representatives stated in a press release that the FAA has approved the landing of the vehicle at the airport.
Sierra Space CEO Tom Vice said in the release that Spaceport America's inclusion among approved landing sites will open up affordable access to space for all. There was no timetable for Spaceport America landings.

Sierra Nevada has been given at least six uncrewed International Space Station cargo missions. The flights will lift off from Florida.
NASA's former space shuttle runway at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida is one of the places where Dream Chaser is expected to land.
Sierra Space said in a recent release that Oita Airport in Japan and Spaceport Cornwall in the UK are in the works.
NASA chose Boeing and SpaceX to carry astronauts to and from the International Space Station, despite the company initially thinking of Dream Chaser as a crewed vehicle for the space station. The crewed version of the space plane may eventually be built for other clients.
The International Space Station is currently receiving cargo shipments from the two companies mentioned. During re-entries, the Dragon capsule is designed to return experiments to Earth. There is another way to get cargo down to Earth from the International Space Station.
