Apple is not a founding member of the Metaverse standards body.
The Metaverse Standards Forum brings together companies and standards organizations to foster alignment on requirements and priorities for metaverse interoperability standards. The organization wants to help different visions of the metaverse work with each other by enabling communication between a wide range of organizations and companies.
The founding members include 0x Senses, Academy Software Foundation, Adobe, Alibaba, Autodesk, Avataar, Blackshark.ai, CalConnect, Cesium, and the Express Language Foundation.
Despite its heavy investment and ongoing work on multiple devices in the augmented-reality and virtual-reality space, Apple is not included in the list of members. Apple has been involved in the creation of standards in the past The "USDZ" file format for three-dimensional content was created by it. Matter is a new open standard for smart home accessories.
Metaverse platforms like The Sandbox and Decentraland are not included in the standards forum. Apple and other organizations could join in the future because the forum is free.
