The White House hopes that suspending the federal gas tax for three months will help alleviate some of the pain caused by high gas prices.

The tax on gasoline and diesel should be suspended until the end of September according to a statement released by the White House.
The president urged states to either pause their own gas taxes, deferring any planned hikes, or offer relief payments for high prices at the pump.
The Highway Trust Fund is funded by these taxes and Biden wants Congress to use other revenues to cover the cost.
In the statement, Biden once again blamed the high gas prices on Putin and his invasion of Ukraine, and referred to it as the "Putin Price Hike."
