Afghanistan was on the verge of a humanitarian disaster due to food shortages and sanctions against the country's Taliban rulers. Afghanistan fell into chaos last year as the Biden administration moved to quickly remove the U.S. military from the country. The collapse of the country's civilian leadership was caused by the U.S. leaving the country. The Taliban government has been hit with numerous international sanctions, including the Biden administration's decision to freeze $7 billion of the Afghan Central Bank's funds, which will be used to make legal payouts to the 9/11 victims.
