The CEO of McDonald's in Russia said the chain sold a record 120,000 burgers on its opening day.
"We have never seen such daily turnover in the entire time Mcdonald's has been in Russia," Paroev said in an exclusive interview. Paroev was the CEO of Mcdonald's Russia.
McDonald's left the Russian market in May due to the war in Ukraine and the unpredictable operating environment. The US fast-food chain sold the Russian business to Alexander Govor, who renamed it "Vkusno & tochka," which means "tasty and that's it." Thirty-five shops were opened in and around Moscow on the same day as the 15 rebranded shops.
Photos from Vkusno and tochka's opening in Russia show restaurants full of diners.
Mary Meisenzahl reported on June 15 that the McDonald's restaurants have superficial changes. Most of the items on the new menu are from the US fast food chain. Big Macs are not available.
The number of McDonald's stores in Russia will be increased from 850 to 1,000 in four to five years, according to Paroev. He wants to open Vkusno and tochka at new locations, but faces challenges in finding ingredients and new suppliers due to a significant percentage of products being imported.
Russia has been hit with sanctions that resulted in shortages of auto parts, toilets, and new movies.
