UFC president Dana White commented on the situation when he commented on the contract talks between the UFC and one of its biggest stars.
The UFC was asked to either release him from his contract or book him a fight by August. He said he would like to box Jake Paul. He showed a video of Paul knocking out Tyron in December.
"UFC release now or give me a fight with anyone in July or August," he wrote on the social networking site.
Dana White commented on the promotion's efforts to book the next fight at a news conference Tuesday.
White didn't know what he was going to do. Let's be honest." In the last five or six years, he has only fought once. You want to be fair and do the right thing when you have guys who have been with us for a long time. Thewelterweight champion Kamaru Usman is not going to be fought byNateDiaz. We are trying to do the best we can and not disrespect anyone. He should fight JakePaul. There is a fight that makes sense.
White said on Tuesday that he would send the release.
He hasn't fought since a unanimous decision loss to LeonEdwards in June 2021. He has one fight left on his UFC contract, and for the better part of a year he has been publicly demanding the promotion book him that last fight. Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson are some of the opponents that Diaz would like to face.
Sources say the UFC offered a fight against Chimaev. Chimaev's inexperience was cited as the reason for the turn down. In December, he referred to Chimaev as a "rookie".
It is unlikely that he would fight Paul again because he is under contract with the UFC.
Sources say that the UFC and Nicklas have talked about a new deal in the past, however neither side has commented publicly on it. White said in March that he thought there was a good chance that the fighter would re-sign with the UFC.
This isn't the first time that Diaz has asked for his release. In March, he did it as well. Representatives for the man declined to speak further when contacted by the sports network.
