The results of PCMag's annual mobile network comparison show that T-Mobile is the best carrier in the US when it comes to connection speed and reliability.

In 30 cities, PCMag drove over 10,000 miles to test connection speeds. PCMag looked for the best overall network instead of focusing on the fastest connections. T-Mobile won in 18 of 30 cities while AT&T won in four.

In terms of pure speed, T-Mobile won in 19 cities, while AT&T and Verizon won in 9 and 2, respectively. T-Mobile had the highest average download speed of 264.4Mb/s, beating out AT&T's average speed of 78Mb/s and Verizon's average speed of 158.6Mb/s. T-Mobile had an average upload speed that was better than AT&T.

T-Mobile has improved its service in rural areas, but it still has more data dead zones than AT&T.

The fastest connections will need a 5G phone. There is a widening of the gap between 4G and 5G speeds on T-Mobile. The expansion of mid-band 5G networks has led to an increase in nationwide speeds, but AT&T's speed has dropped.

The device that had the best network performance in PCMag's test was the SAMSUNG GALAXY S22+. Speed and reliability accounted for 60 percent and 40 percent of the score, respectively. The factors taken into account were call success, data success, download speeds, and upload speeds.
