Houston Rockets' John Wall exercises $47.4M player option for 2022-23; sides to talk buyout if no trade found

According to sources, John Wall exercised his player option for the 2022-23 season.

If a swap can't be found, the Rockets are expected to work with Wall on a contract buy out.

Wall was traded from Washington to Houston prior to the 2020-21 season. During the 2020-21 season, Wall started 40 games for the Astros and averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists. He was shut down by the Houston and Wall to protect his body and trade value.

With the decision that a bench role for him wouldn't be beneficial to either side, both sides agreed that he would sit out.

Wall, a five-time All-Star, was limited to 113 games over the course of three seasons due to a number of injuries.
