The Worldwide Amazon Stores business will have a new CEO in Doug Herrington. The role of CEO of Worldwide Consumer was previously held by Clark.

Jassy wrote in an email that Herrington is a builder of great teams and has been with Amazon for 17 years.

He's a terrific inventor for customers, thinks big, has thoughtful vision around how category management and ops can work well together, is a unifier, and an avid learner.

Amazon customers interact with most of the divisions, including physical stores and online retail.

Over the past few years, Herrington has taken on multiple roles. The consumer CEO role was taken over by Clark in January 2021.

Current and former employees recently told Insider that Clark's tenure was marred by overexpansion and over-staffing at Amazon fulfillment centers, as well as failing to stop union progress. Clark's relationship with Jassy had become tense due to Jassy's penchant for micro-managing and his bias toward the division he used to lead.

Herrington will become one of Amazon's most powerful executives when he reports to Jassy.

Jassy wrote that the team was strong and experienced. I think we're in the early days of what's possible, and I remain very optimistic about our Stores business.
