The PS5 is a giant console, the biggest in modern history, and a YouTuber has created aSlim model that is a fraction more thick than the plastic cases that house PS5 games. The size of the PS5 has been reduced from four inches to just under an inch thanks to the efforts of Matt Perks.

A giant external power supply and cooling solution are hidden away in a slim copper console that has the key PS5 components. Most of the PS5's thickness comes from its cooling heatsink and power supply, so it was relocated to a long external unit to make it more attractive.

A custom water cooling system is used to replace the PS5s existing cooling solution. The PS5 has components that are attached to it that need to be cooled.

Sony has lowered the power consumption of some previous models in order to create slim versions, but that is not accessible to the average person. The PS2 or PS One slim models have external power supplies.

The slim version needs a giant external PSU and cooling unit.

The PS5 was fried when the external power and cooling unit fell over and blocked the air-flow. The PS5Slim successfully boots and plays games after it was swapped out for a new one.

There are some temperature improvements for the PS5. A bigger external cooling unit could be used to further lower temperatures.

The entire project is still a fascinating 30 minute journey into the trial and error of mod consoles. The custom copper water block is impressive in how easy it is to build. The PS5 "Slim" won't be made available on eBay any time soon.
