There will be nonstop flights between Thailand and North America for the first time in a decade. Air Canada will be flying to Southeast Asia. Air Canada will be launching a seasonal flight between the two cities. Between December 1, 2022, and April 14, 2023, the route will operate 4 times per week. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, Air Canada will operate a service to Thailand.
One of Air Canada's longer flights will be covered by the route.
The Boeing 787-9 will be used by Air Canada for this service. Business class seats include 30 and premium economy seats include 21.
Even though Thailand is popular with travelers from North America, the economics of nonstop service just don't work.
Thai Airways stopped flying from Bangkok to Los Angeles and New York in 2012 due to the loss of its A340-500s. The airline lost money on the routes for a long time.
United is one of the most creative global airlines when it comes to launching new long haul routes. The airline has done well with Singapore service, but it has never flown to Thailand.
Thailand is primarily a leisure destination and you need a lot of premium business demand to make the economics of an ultra long haul flight work.
At least this is a temporary "sweet spot" for this kind of service.
Air Canada is trying out a new route. I will be curious to see if the route returns for a second season. This could be the inspiration that United needs to launch this type of service.
Air Canada has a geographical advantage with this route. The closest mainland gateway would be San Francisco, which is 600 miles further away.
Air Canada will be launching a new route between BC and Thailand. It will be the first time a North American airline will fly between the mainland and Thailand.
It is hoped that this is the beginning of a more permanent service.
