Donald Trump said on Monday that he is responsible for Ron DeSantis being elected governor of Florida in 2019.

During a phone interview on Newsmax's "The Balance," Trump was asked his thoughts on Ron DeSantis running for president.

I'm not sure if he wants to run. I don't know if Ron wants to run. I have yet to see that. "You're telling me something I haven't seen, so we'll see what happens," Trump said.

The former president said that he was responsible for his election.

On-air comments by Trump are in line with his claims in the New Yorker article.

The Florida governor wouldn't have won if Trump hadn't endorsed him. Adam Putnam had a 15 million dollar war chest and was endorsed by the former president.

According to The New Yorker, Susan Wiles, a political strategist who helped Donald Trump win the 2016 election, had managed the campaign of Ron DeSantis, but that he broke ties with her after he was elected.

Wealthy donors who supported Trump's campaign have begun making donations to a political committee tied to the congressman. Most of them had never donated money to a candidate in a state-level election.

While Trump told the New Yorker multiple times that his relationship with DeSantis is very good, the outlet also cited a lawyer who said things between them are complicated.

Trump told the New Yorker that he is "very close to making a decision" on whether to run for president in four years.

Conservative straw polls show that support for DeSantis is growing.

If they both ran for president, Trump said he would win. He told Yahoo Finance that if he faced him, he would beat him.

On June 12th, Rolling Stone reported that Trump was considering a presidential bid. According to a source familiar with the matter, his choice of location would be to show who the boss is in the GOP.

Insider's request for comment was not responded to by the office of the governor.
