A referendum on seceding from the US is being pushed by the Texas GOP.

The state GOP made it clear in a document that it wanted the state to hold a vote on the issue. The Texas Republican Party voted overwhelmingly to reject the legitimacy of the 2020 election at their convention in Houston.

The document states that the federal government has "impaired" its right to self-govern and that the state should hold a vote.

The Texas GOP proposed that any federally mandated legislation that harms the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be refused and nullified.

The Texas Legislature should be called upon to vote on a referendum that would allow Texas to leave the United States.

The Texas GOP urged state lawmakers to bring a vote to the people of Texas to determine if or not the state should remain an independent nation. The vote would be on the ballot in three years.

The Texas GOP called for state lawmakers to investigate election fraud.

The GOP's platform document urged the passage of a constitutional amendment that would give the Texas Attorney General concurrent jurisdiction to prosecute election fraud.

This isn't the first time that the idea of Texas leaving the United States has been brought up. If the situation in the US becomes "hopeless", Texas Senator Ted Cruz said the state might break away.

"We're not there yet, and if there's a point where it's not going to work, then I think we take NASA, we take the military, and we take the oil," Cruz said.

The Constitution does not allow Texas to leave the Union.
