John Wood is currently working on evidence for the January 6 select committee's investigation into the siege at the US Capitol.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Danforth publicly called on Wood to run for Senate.
"Respected leaders across the state of Missouri have made it clear that Missouri voters deserve an alternative option to the leading candidates for the Republican and Democratic nominations for US Senate," said the news release. John has answered many calls over the course of his career in government.
Wood didn't reply to the request for comment about the elections.
The co-chair of the January 6 committee is Liz Cheney. Wood has a resume that shows he worked for the senator. In the early 1990s, he clerked for US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Judge Michael Luttig.
On June 16th, Luttig testified that Donald Trump is scheming to rig the 2020 election and that he is also scheming to rig the 2024 election.
A field of nearly three dozen candidates are vying for the open seat in Missouri.
GOP candidates include scandal-plagued former Gov. Eric Greitens, who stirred the pot by releasing an ad in which he and other armed men bust into an empty house while hunting "Republicans in name only" One of the Democrats trying to turn the Senate delegation purple is a first-time candidate.
Josh Hawley is a candidate for the presidency in 2024.
The pro-Wood recruiting effort needs to register with the Federal Election Commission and get enough signatures to get on the ballot as a third-party candidate, according to the Post-Dispatch.
The group doesn't seem to be deterred.
The group said it would work to draft John Wood into the race to give Missourians a choice.
