Marquinhos is a Sao Paolo teenager with almost a year of first team experience in Brazil.

The 18-year-old Julio Enciso is considered to be something special for a while back home, but he is being signed more for his potential than his accomplishments.

MLS, USMNT, El Tri are on the Futbol Americas.

A strong left-footed Brazilian, who is a bit further down the line, will be joining Real Betis from Fluminense.

Over the last five years, River Plate have nurtured one of their own, who now crosses the Atlantic as an established star at the age of 22.

Nowadays, big European clubs are less likely to acquire players from South American clubs if they are younger. Europe wants young people. The idea is that they can be signed cheaper and that the earlier they come the easier it will be to adapt to the life and the football. Major European clubs don't like players who are in their 20s.

There may be an exception based on personal relations. Jesus is the new coach at Fenerbahce. Gabriel "Gabigol" Barbosa, who was the cutting edge of his team in Brazil, is said to have been requested by his boss to sign.

When he went to Europe for the first time, he was too young to make a difference. Is he too dependent on his left foot? A key question now is whether the player will be interested in a move to a club from outside one of the big western European league.

On a recent trip to Brazil, Jesus was taken with Paixao, who has started the season very well with Coritiba, cutting in from the left to his stronger right foot.

Farias is from Colon in Argentina and he is enjoying an excellent year. Talented and intelligent, Farias is on the radar of Porto in Portugal due to his excellent form as a support forward.

There is a lot of speculation about Marcos Leonardo, a squat little 19-year-old centre forward who scored four goals last week for Brazil's under-20s.

Also seen as something special is his club mate Angelo, a 17-year-old winger who cuts in from the right who is being linked with Newcastle, though suitors will have to wait until the end of the year to take him over the Atlantic.

South America has an interesting crop ofMidfielders who make the biggest splash in the transfer market.

He was on loan at Defensa y Justicia when they won the cup, but has since become a key player in the River line up.

He is involved in all phases of the game, winning the ball, setting up the moves and finishing, and is on a number of European teams' radars.

The 21-year-old from Palmeiras has made great strides in the last few years. He is one of the most effective players in Brazilian football. Palmeiras don't plan to transfer the player, but it might be difficult to keep him. After being called up for the senior Brazil squad and training with the world's best, he could well be hungry for more.

Carlos Alcaraz has been the revelation of domestic Argentine football this year, breaking into the penalty area with real thrust.

Alan Varela is starting to flourish in a defensive position. Three 21-year-olds from Brazil, including Hercules of Fortaleza, who is strong box to box, and Vinicius Zanocelo ofSantos, who can direct play from deep, are getting attention.

One of the few bright lights on the horizon for Chile, and one that would seem to have the potential to hold his own in Europe, is a young man named Marcelino Nunez. The skill and vision of Yerson Chacon is worthy of a wider audience.

One who is attracting attention at the age of 26 is a defender from Red Bull who has been linked with West ham. A recent call up to the Brazil squad is due to his calm and classy demeanor and ability to operate in a high defensive line.

Nicolas Marichal is a centre-back with speed. It is surprising that European clubs haven't shown more interest in him.

One centre-back who will surely be on the radars is 18-year-oldJoel Ordonez from Independiente del Valle, a club with a remarkable recent history of developing talent. A composed and athletic defender who has taken wonderfully well to promotion to the first team, Ordonez looks full of promise in a number of positions across the defensive line. He isn't likely to be in the country for a while.
