Companies look to the calendar for clues as to when to show up for diversity, equity and inclusion. That instinct leaves much to be desired. Unfortunately we can't rely on a lot of dates to make social change because of celebrations or cultural holidays. Taking a break from the calendar is a better way to show up. It is okay for your company to celebrate Juneteenth or Pride month, but you need to make sure that your contributions are authentic and lasting.

There are many examples of shameful moments in public life, such as the countless shameful moments we've seen public figures wear sombreros and sip margaritas for a holiday.
