Alexander von Humboldt proposed that the world was one great living organisms where everything was connected in the 19th century. He was one of the first to note the damage done to Earth by humans.
Christopher Edward Rodriguez was a photographer. He thought about what a camera could see when almost every inch of the planet has been photographed to death. He created a series of images that show the planet as if it has never been seen before. Long exposures, artificial lighting, and colored gels were used tocircumvent the camera. His aim for the photographs was to convey a sense of strangeness, one that embodies a forgotten philosophy of the 19th century: "everything is interaction and reciprocated."
