The second and final spot in the Commissioner's Cup is up for grabs, with the Sky taking on the best team in the league.
The Sky earned their spot in the Eastern Conference by virtue of the Connecticut Sun's loss.
Following Sunday's 89-87 loss to the Fever, the Sky are now 1-8 in the Commissioner's Cup. In cup play, the Aces are.
"After you drop one like tonight, it's hard to get over it," the Sky guard stated. We could've stayed perfect. We allowed one to get away tonight because we were trying to strive for things like hosting. We are still in the driver's seat and we are looking forward to that. If we want to compete in that game, we need to improve a lot.
The Commissioner's Cup is an in-season competition that features 60 regular-season games, with the first home and first road games each team plays against its conference rivals. The home arena of the team with the highest win clip in Cup play will be the site of the championship on July 26.
The Seattle Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun in the inaugural edition of the cup. The winning team in the championship game can earn at least $30,000 per player and the runners-up can take home $10,000 each.
The league will donate at least $165,000 to local nonprofits in all 12 team markets as part of the charity component of the competition.
