Lia Thomas' participation in women's swimming has reached a breaking point because of the world's governing body.

The International Swimming Federation made a decision over the weekend regarding the participation of trans women in swimming.

Men and women who transition before the age of 12 can compete in women's events. They say that trans female athletes have an unfair physical advantage over cis female athletes.

The conclusion was reached by using multiple studies, reports and presentations by 3 specialist groups, which then voted in favor of the decision.

This isn't saying that people are encouraged to transition by the age of 12 according to a rep for the Prez. Scientists say that if you transition after puberty, you have an advantage.

Everyone should transition by age 11, that's ridiculous. In most countries, you can't transition by that age. It is not possible for people who have transitioned to compete without an advantage. There is no trans woman currently competing in elite levels of swimming.

An "open competition" category is one of the things that is being considered by FINA. They're asking a team to investigate it further at this time.

Lia is allowed to compete in collegiate swimming because of the new rules of the NCAA. She became the first woman to win a national title in the 500-meter freestyle.

Some people are welcoming the news that trans female athletes have an advantage over their cis gender competitors.

She said it worked. I got a lot of heat, but what is fair? You can't take medals away from females if you go through male puberty. There is no end to the period.
