The Orange County Police Department disciplined two of their own for leaking the news of the comedian's death.

The department's dissemination of information directive was violated when Silva and Reed told family and friends about the actor's death.

The actor, best known for his role in the ABC sitcom "Full House," was found dead in his hotel room on January 9. There was no evidence of foul play or drugs in his system.

His family told Entertainment Tonight that he accidentally hit the back of his head and went to sleep.

ABC7Chicago reported that Silva shared the news with his brother, who immediately followed up with a "RIP Bob" message.

Reed sent the news to his friends who had seen the performance.

Reed said in his interview that he probably shouldn't have shared his mistake.

Insider did not get a response from the Orange County Police Department.

According to CNN, the punishment for the deputy's conduct was undisclosed. Jay Smith is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.
