Jack Suwinski punctuates 3-HR game with walk-off dinger (2:04)

The Pirates avoided being swept by the Giants when Jack Suwinski hit three home runs. There is a time and a place for it.

5:51 PM ET

Jack Suwinski hit a walk-off home run in the ninth to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

After hitting his first home run of the season on June 4 against the Arizona D-backs, the young man drove a pitch from Tyler Rogers to right for his second game-ending home run of the season.

The first rookies in major league history to have three home runs in a game is Suwinski. He is the first Pirates player to hit two walk-off home runs in a single month since 1947.

I was not going to do that. "That's not going to happen,'" Suwinski said. It's hard to hit that guy. It isn't an easy at-bat coming from that low.

The manager of the Pirates asked Suwinski if he was ready to go deep in the ninth. He said he was told no.

Suwinski said that he was not thinking about that. You try to do too much and then you blow it. I was just concentrating on what the pitcher had and not thinking about that.

The organization's top prospect will be recalled by the Pirates on Monday. Cruz and Madris will join the major league club. Cruz, who appeared in two games for the Pirates last season and hit a home run, is hitting.233 with nine home runs, 35 strikeouts and a.761 OPS for Indianapolis this season.

Suwinski is the second Pirates player to hit three homers in a single game. Bell was the last player to hit three in a game.

In the fourth, Suwinski hit a solo shot and in the sixth, he hit a two-run shot. He is tied with Bryan Reynolds for the team lead in home runs.

The game was tied at 3 after David Bednar gave up a home run to Thairo Estrada. Bednar struck out two of the final three hitters in the ninth to end the game.

The Pirates'Mitch Keller gave up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts in six starts, extending his streak of starts with less than three runs allowed to four. In his last six games, he has given up eight earned runs.

It's nice, but tomorrow you have to clean it up. You have to continue. I think that way. Keep going and doing what you're doing.

During his return from the injured list, he gave up two runs on four hits.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler thinks he was solid after a long layoff. He came out in good shape. He's not going to be happy not coming out of the game with a lead, but he got through what our pitch count was for him.

Joc Pederson hit a two-run single after an error and two walks loaded the bases for San Francisco.

After Park hit his first home run of the season in the third, Suwinski hit his first home run of the year in the fourth.

Sometimes you have to tip your cap. The pitch to Suwinski was not good. It is his day. The story can be about one person. He played an impressive game.
