The Pixar film is coming in below expectations despite getting good reviews. Variety reported that the film made only $51 million in North America, despite opening at $86 million around the world. Lightyear is the first Pixar film to hit theaters in two years after 2020's Onward, and both Luca and Soul went straight to streaming during their releases. At this point, people may have been under the impression that they can watch Pixar films on the internet, and it may also be the case that the movie is an extension of the Toy Story brand. It will be interesting to see how it lives on in theaters and Pixar.

When everything is said and done, it will make over a billion dollars. Lightyear has some competitors in front of it, but its biggest competitor will be the upcoming movie, "Minions: Rise of Gru." If there is a trailer for the studio's upcoming Mario movie attached to it, Illumination's yellow-covered demons will make over a billion when they hit in 2015.
