Since leaving the White House last year, Donald Trump has teased a presidential campaign, but in recent weeks he has sought to ward off potential GOP challengers who might take him on.
According to the report, the former president told his advisors that he wanted to flex his dominance within the party by making an announcement before the 2020 elections to "shore up the donor base" and "take a victory lap"
Unlike the 2016 presidential election, where the former president's campaign team ran a New York based operation in Trump Tower, the potential 2024 campaign operation will be at his Mar-a-Lago club.
According to the report, associates in Trump's office are still thinking about when the announcement should be made.
Two people with knowledge of Trump's thinking told CNN that the former president already has office space in Palm Beach for people connected to his Save America PAC, which will likely be close to home.
An individual close to Trump told CNN that the campaign headquarters will be right in the middle of the president's political base in the state of Florida.
The individual told the news network that Mar-a-Lago would be the campaign headquarters.
