After sustaining an injury in the second game of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday, Colorado's Andre Burakovsky will not travel with the team to the next game.
The coach said that Burakovsky would join the team on Monday. It's not known if he'll be available for Game 3.
Burakovsky left the game in the second period after taking a Victor Hedman shot. Burakovsky missed two games in the Western Conference final against the Eskimos with a leg injury. Burakovsky said last week that he was close to recovering from that issue, but he still had to take maintenance days.
The Avs are short-handed in their top six because of the absence of Kadri. He resumed skating with a stick last week, after playing in the third game of the conference finals. Kadri is still considered day-to-day despite Bednar's assurances that he will travel with the team.
Bednar said they were hopeful they would see him at some point. I don't know about Game 3 or Game 4.
Since he replaced Kadri on the second line, Burakovsky has excelled in the playoffs. The big winger scored Colorado's overtime winner in Game 1 and made the most of limited playing time in Game 2, notching a key assist on Valeri Nushkin's power play goal and scoring himself. Burakovsky has 12 points and three goals in the playoffs.
In the second game, Bednar moved Artturi Lehkonen to the second unit with Mikko Rantanen and J.T. Compher.
If Burakovsky is able to play, Colorado will wait and see. Andrew Cogliano returned to the team on Saturday to shore up their depth. Nicolas Aube-Kubel would likely return to the lineup if Burakovsky is out.
