At its biennial convention on Saturday, the Republican Party of Texas adopted a platform that was anti-gay.
Being gay is described in the new platform as an abnormal lifestyle choice.
It calls for a policy of fighting against special status for members of the LGBTQ community and protection against criminal or civil penalties for those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.
There is no federal law that protects people who are gay from discrimination.
There is a call for opposition to "all efforts to validate trans identity" and a ban on medical practitioners from providing gender affirming care to anyone under the age of 21.
The use of taxpayer funds for gender-affirming treatments is not supported by the platform.
Public funding to "homosexuality, trans or diversity-equity-inclusion centers" was opposed in the new platform.
The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston, an organization that represents the lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer community, called the language offensive.
The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston are related to the Log Cabin Republicans of Fort Worth. Insider reported that the latter were not allowed to have a booth at the convention.
The decision was called "narrow minded" and "politically short-sighted" by the national group.
Donald Trump Jr. criticized the decision to not include the group.
The Texas GOP should focus its energy on fighting back against the radical democrats and weak RINOs who are trying to legislate our 2nd amendment rights away, instead of canceling a group of gay conservatives who are standing in the breech with us," he said.
The sentiment against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer community was felt at the conference.
There was a flyer titled "Be alert and aware of the Homosexual Agenda."
Jack Finger of San Antonia is a precinct chair for the Texas GOP. He said that their ideas are evil. Our society will be destroyed by their ideals.
The Texas GOP was contacted.
Houston Public Media reported that the Republicans embraced "The Big Lie". The media outlet reported that convention attendees denied conspiracy theories.
"We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not elected by the people of the United States."
