The film earned another $58.6 million in weekend two and is expected to make $68 million over the Juneteenth holiday. That three-day drop is just 60%, which isn't spectacular but is close enough toJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's 58% drop ($60 million from a $148 million debut in 2018) to assume similar legs over the next several weeks. There aren't a lot of big tentpoles between now and Black Adam on October 21. The movie has made $259 million as of Monday night, and if it continues to make money, it will end with $391 million domestic.
Top Gun: Maverick is the movie of the moment, but it's not the best movie of the year. Critics don't like it as much as the previous ones, but audiences seem to like it because it doesn't show dinosaurs eating people and because it doesn't have a scene where dinosaurs kill people. The film is the only game in town for non-super heroic, non-superpowered and not-so- special regular people. There will be little competition for the next few months.
By the end of the summer, it will be third or fourth depending on the earning of the other two movies. It is still a three-way fight between Top Gun: Maverick, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Jurassic World Dominion, with a combined gross of over $1 billion. The only $1 billion grosser in the summer of last year was Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned $272 million domestically and $854 million worldwide. In November and December, there will be Black Panther: Wakanda FOREVER and The Way of Water.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earned $4.7 million in its seventh weekend and $5.1 million over the holiday, earning a total of $4.7 million. It will surpass Captain America: Civil War and Iron Man 3 in domestic box office grosses. With around $950 million worldwide thus far, a pre- Covid business-as-usual performance in China, Russia and Ukraine probably would have resulted in a global total in line with those films. On the same day as the third episode of Ms. Marvel and the first season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the film was sent to Disney+.
20th Century Studios and Disney's Bob's Burgers: The Movie earned over one million dollars in four days. It's a total of $29.97 million over the course of 25 days. The Bad Guys made $950,000 over the Fri-Sun weekend for a holiday gross of over one million dollars. It will end Monday with $94 million domestically and $235 million worldwide. It won't reach Encanto's $256 million box office, but it's close enough to suggest that the film's performance is more of a Disney problem than a Covid problem. A 24 film, Everything, Everywhere All at Once, has earned $65 million domestically and has earned $400 million worldwide.
