In about three years, Tanvi Shah went from 5,000 to more than 38,000 followers on her social media accounts. She left her job at the Big Four after she realized she could make more money. Shah said her mental health has been affected by the corporate world. Tanvi Shah knew she was taking a huge risk when she left her job at a Big Four accounting firm to become an influencer full time. She told Insider that it was frightening. Her parents were not aware of the power of social media. "It was a huge relief for them knowing that I have a foundation to fall back on and the worst case scenario is I can get another job," Shah said. She began putting more time into making videos that offer career advice for social media platforms when the Pandemic hit. She said that she invested more time in increasing the quality of images and videos in order to work with many businesses. My following grew quickly as I talked about things that weren't typically discussed when working in the corporate space and being South Asian. Shah thought about how she could make money from her following after finding an audience. She now has more than 100,000 followers on both social media.
Depending on how much work she gets a month, her earnings per post depends.
My goal has been to match my salary. Sometimes a large brand will opt for a content package, such as anInstagram reel and a TikTok video, in order to save money. A brand that wanted three pieces of content got the biggest deal.
Shah started creating social media content as a side hustle, but within a year he was able to land jobs as a model and radio host. She was finding it difficult to manage her time as a content creator and corporate employee.
Shah said that when he woke up at 6am to edit videos, he realized there was not as much job satisfaction in the corporate space.
I will never try to do it full time. I resigned from my Big Four job because I wanted to have more freedom.
Shah had a side hustle before she gave up her corporate job. She was cautious because she knew that past managers were looking at her posts. I felt like Hannah Montana when I came back from working and doing something completely different.
Shah had a career path in the finance world. She thought it would affect her mental health.
She said she can manage her mental health when she works for herself as a creator. I won't be out of pocket if I decide not to work for a week.
Shah was able to become a self-employed person because of her background in accounting and consulting.
All the work that goes on behind the scenes is not seen by the public. She has at least five different apps for scheduling and organizing.
I know basic tax and accounting rules and a way to track profits and losses. It was second nature for me to look at how much profit I made.
