A Walgreens employee from Colorado was arrested and charged with the murder of his coworker, who had previously rejected his advances and complained about being uncomfortable.

A day after the body of Riley Whitelaw was found in the break room of the Walgreens, Joshua Johnson was taken into custody by state troopers outside Colorado Springs. Police said that Johnson had been charged with murder.

According to the arrest affidavit, Whitelaw's body was found in the break room at Walgreens in Colorado Springs on June 11.

Whitelaw was found lying in a lot of blood with trauma to her neck area by police officers. Blood could be seen on the floor, cabinets, and counter of the break room as officers observed no signs of life.

The manager told police that Johnson had been warned a year ago to keep his conduct professional after Whitelaw complained that he had made advances towards her. According to the affidavit, Zunino said Johnson was receptive to the warnings.

Whitelaw asked for a shift change to avoid Johnson. According to Zunino, the teenager requested additional hours and was made aware that she and Johnson would cross paths.

When her boyfriend joined the staff at Walgreens, Johnson continued to be interested in Whitelaw. Crystal Ishmael told police that Johnson was acting jealous.

On the day of Whitelaw's death, a customer at the Walgreens store heard a woman scream and the stalls slamming. According to Zunino, Johnson was stacking bins in front of the camera to block the view.

During the search for Whitelaw, she smelled a strong odor of bleach and tried to get in, but walked away after hearing a man say he was changing.

Johnson told police that he was the person that Ishmael was talking to by the dumpster. He admitted to being in the break room and said he fell in the blood.

Colorado State Patrol troopers found Johnson on the side of the road. He said that he had been attacked at Walgreens. He was taken into custody after the troopers learned that he was a suspect.

Johnson admitted to police that he had a crush on Whitelaw, but that was no longer the case as he was now in a relationship with Ishmael. During her interview, she didn't mention that she was in a relationship with Johnson. Johnson denied trying to block the cameras.

According to her friends and family, Whitelaw was an art enthusiast with a passion for genetics research. She allowed others to be seen, heard, or recognized because of her compassion, according to her obituary. In a room full of adults having conversations or kicking back with her friends, she was at ease.

She had the ability to lift you up when you were down. According to the obituary, she was dedicated, persistent, and passionate.

As the investigation into her murder continues, her funeral will be held next week.

The company was "saddened" by the incident, according to a statement from a senior director.

The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority and we are working with local authorities in their investigation. He said that counseling and other resources would be made available to the store team members.
