The new owners of Air India seem to be focused on renewing the fleet. I am really excited about this.
Air India has asked pilots if they would like to be trained to fly the A350 jet. If they accepted the offer, they wouldn't be able to be trained on another aircraft for two years.
Air India could be flying A350s by the first quarter of 2023 according to a memo. It is thought that the airline will place an order for 20 A350s.
Air India may be close to a deal to acquire the A350s that were intended for either Aeroflot orQatar Airways.
Air India has a long haul fleet consisting of 43 aircraft, of which three are Boeings. The average age of the two types of aircraft is over seven years old.
India is a massive, lucrative, growing aviation market and Air India has a lot of potential. Air India is hampered by its legacy issues, and the airline would be better off starting from scratch, while still having access to Air India's slots.
Many of us hoped that Air India would invest in the premium experience and transform itself into a competitive airline when it took delivery of its first Boeing 787-9s. That didn't happen, and instead we saw the airline use some planes for parts. Hopefully it won't be the same.
I have faith that Air India's A350s will have a better hard product than Aeroflot's A350s.
It would be great to see cabins like this in India.
It is thought that Air India will place an order for A350s early in the future. These are jets that were supposed to be used for Aero Flot. It is hoped that this will mark the beginning of a new chapter for the airline.
Do you think Air India should order A350s?
