Gucci Osteria is a restaurant from the luxury fashion house.
The restaurant is located in Beverly Hills.
There is a look at all the stylish elements.
Gucci is a high end fashion house. I went to Gucci Osteria in Beverly Hills to find out if it was worth the hype.
On a recent trip to Los Angeles, I was intrigued when a local friend told me that the restaurant from the fashion house of the same name was on his list.
I'm a fan of the luxury Italian brand and have purchased its clothing and accessories in the past, but I was a bit skeptical of what a high-end restaurant would be like.
Gucci Osteria in Beverly Hills opened at the beginning of the epidemic and follows other outposts in Tokyo, Korea, and Florence, the latter of which I admired from afar on a trip to Italy a few years ago. My friend told me to try the restaurant.
Obtaining a Gucci Osteria reservation in Los Angeles required a few steps.
When I tried to make my own tables at the restaurant, they were already booked out.
I called the restaurant to get a reservation for the party of six. I have had better luck getting into restaurants in my hometown of New York with this approach.
Within 48 hours, a reservationist called me back to let me know I had a reservation. I had to give some information about myself and my party in order to reserve the table. If you don't show up to the restaurant, they charge an $80 no-show fee per person, meaning my party was on the line for $480.
I would encourage you to call if you can, as reservations for Gucci Osteria are still available 30 days out.
The celebrity clientele of Gucci Osteria Beverly Hills may have something to do with its popularity.
Notable guests to dine here have included Dakota Johnson and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The Gucci Restaurant has a dress code that is smart casual.
The restaurant doesn't want you to show up just to have a drink and an app because they don't want you to be a repeat customer.
Dinner service is only available on a tasting menu. Parties of six or more are required to partake in the tasting menu even if they don't eat dinner.
Although I took a lot of photos at the restaurant, I was told to keep the photos to a minimum.
There is a dress code for the restaurant. I thought that everyone in the restaurant wore at least one Gucci piece, in the case of some, head-to-toe Gucci.
The star of my outfit was a floral printed jacket that I wore with a black Gucci t-shirt. Designers aren't required in the space, but if you're worried about what to wear, you should pair your look with a smart pair of shoes or a belt.
Above the Gucci store is a restaurant.
The Rodeo Drive restaurant is located just above Gucci's boutique, and my party and I went there on the day of our reservation.
There is a door with an iron gate that seems to blend in with the store's green marble facade.
Since the restaurant is on the 2nd floor, I entered what is mostly a reception area with a host stand but a bold one, with bright blue floral and bird print wallpaper that lined the entrance to the elevator.
The décor inside the restaurant was bold and elegant, but also casual.
I thought the restaurant had an upscale Italian vibe that was casual but not pretentious.
The restaurant is smaller and more intimate than I thought it would be. A Gucci-print armchair gave a pop of branding.
I thought the terrace was the center of the restaurant and where I sat with my guests. The marble mosaic floors felt refined and the overhead electric fans reminded me of more casual places.
The tables were set with rose and leaf patterns.
The table settings were both stylish and irreverent, with a mix of patterns and texture. A leather menu adorned with an evil eye and star motif were recognizable symbols that have been prevalent in Gucci's imagery for a long time. There was a lamp on the table.
The cocktail I started my meal with was expensive, but delicious.
I was a bit surprised that the cocktails ranged from $25 to $40.
The Calirosa Garden was made with a variety of drinks, including dragoncello, prickly pear, lime, and shiso. It was worth waiting for, even though I thought it would take a while.
The cocktail that everyone wanted a taste of was the "Coffy with Milk," made with Nigori sake, Pio Cesare vermouth, and Luxardo Bianco. There was an ice cube in it.
The wine was picked by the sommelier.
The red wine we would pair with our meal was chosen by the Rinaldi family.
Jon, the sommelier, told me that Rinaldi is one of the most sought-after and respected vineyards in the area. I thought the classic Cannubi tasted of crushed flowers, mint, and bright red fruits.
A tasting menu is available for dinner. A burrata dish inspired by a famous Los Angeles monument was the first course on the menu.
Gucci Osteria's approach to cuisine "rides the wave of the seasons with creativity, elegance, humor, and sensuality" and draws inspiration from each locale where they operate," according to their website.
The first course of burrata at the Beverly Hills restaurant was plated to look like the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. I thought the dish looked like art on a plate with an appetizing combination of flavors.
My dining companions and I enjoyed a seafood salad with olive oil and seasonal greens.
The second dish was a thinly-sliced seafood salad. This was my least favorite dish as I found the combination to not be as good as I wanted, but other diners at my table disagreed, so it might have been a personal taste.
The risotto I liked the most was similar to a pizza. The server said it was the most popular among other diners.
"Risotto Camouflaged as Pizza" was the most popular dish. It was a crowd pleasing combination of tomato, basil, and Stracciatella that I thought melted in my mouth the way a delicious slice of Neapolitan-style pizza would.
A unique version of a classic Italian fish dish was next.
The fourth dish was a thickly-breaded fried fish that came with a slice of a farmers market tomato terrine.
In my opinion, any fried fish is good, but I thought this version was better.
The last thing was dessert. The petit fours and pasticcini were the highlight, I thought.
The portions were large and I was excited for dessert.
We were presented with a dessert made of wild rice and chocolate. I thought it was lovely, but it was not my favorite.
A cake stand full of pastries was brought over by the waitress after she finished the meal.
The bill for our meal at the Gucci Restaurant in Beverly Hills was $2,200, which included a round of cocktails and bottles of wine.
It was not cheap to eat at Gucci Osteria. I didn't think a Gucci restaurant in Beverly Hills would be open.
We paid our bill in full and got a tip of $2,200. Since we only did the five-course tasting menu, and there are more expensive, elaborate options, I would assume you would spend at least $350 or more per person with cocktails and/or wine.
There are a few things I wouldn't do at Gucci Osteria Beverly Hills again.
I admit that not all of the dishes at the restaurant were perfect for me, even though I liked many of the dishes at the restaurant.
I thought the caliber of service was high, but the cost, portion sizes, and overall flavors were not that different from other upscale restaurants where I have eaten. That doesn't mean that this wasn't a very good meal. It was, that's right.
I return to Gucci Osteria Beverly Hills because of the beautiful light-filled terrace and the nice atmosphere.
The restaurant is right for diners who see-and-be-seen types of places.
I would skip the dinner tasting menu and go for lunch when the la carte menu is available.
After seeing Chef Agazzi unbox this incredible homemade panettone, the Italian sweet bread that originated in Milan, I would like to coordinate my next visit around the holiday season.
