The 19-year-old woman who flew a plane around the world said she embarked on her journey to encourage more women and girls into careers in aviation and related fields.

She was the youngest woman to go around the world alone. She is the first person to fly in a small plane.

ShaestaWaiz held the record for the longest trip around the world at 30 years old.

She didn't feel like she could talk about aviation with her friends at her all-girls school and she didn't see many female pilots growing up.

It wasn't good. She said that it's hard for a girl to see themselves in a pilot's job.

His parents are both pilots.

Problems meant the journey took longer than anticipated

She went west towards north and south America after starting in Belgium.

After her Russian visa expired, she decided to stay in Alaska for a month instead of going for a night with her family.

The 19-year-old said the flights from Alaska and over Siberia were the most difficult because every single flight went wrong.

It was difficult to fly between the Russian cities of Anadyr and Magadan because there was not a single weather station there.

The weather had to be perfect, the wind had to be perfect, or I would run out of gas.

It was not an option to turn back because of fuel levels.

She traveled the world for five months and finished at Kortrijk-Wevelgem airport in Belgium.

'People keep asking me what's next'

The pilot wants to stay in aviation and attend a university.

She doesn't see her experience as something she needs to personally "beat"

People keep asking what I'm going to do. I don't think flying around the world is easy. "You can't compare them, whether it's flying around the world, or running a marathon, or even just overcoming a small challenge," he said.

I'm just as proud of both flying around the world and solving a math problem as you are.
