The Attorney General tried to overturn a court order that allowed a hospital in Texas to provide gender-affirming care for new patients.

The state of Texas did not have the authority to intervene in the case, according to the judge.

Bellan provided an injunction and restraining order to allow Dr. Lopez to continue providing gender-affirming health care for trans youth.

The office argued that they should be able to bring experts to support the claim that gender-affirming healthcare is child abuse.

In the last few months, the state of Texas has made it harder for young people to get healthcare. Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate parents who allowed their children to receive gender-affirming care.

There was reason to believe that the law would cause immediate and irreparable injury if it was enforced, the judge said on June 11.

Studies show that gender-affirming care is linked to lower rates of suicide and depression.

An executive order was signed by President Joe Biden on Wednesday. According to a White House fact sheet, the order would give states guidance on policies that would expand physical and mental healthcare for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer youth.

The representative for the office did not reply immediately.
