Inverness, Fla. is located in Florida Two white Florida men have been charged with a federal hate crime for beating a black man in a store parking lot.

The Lashleys were indicted by a grand jury according to the Justice Department.

The Black man was attacked in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store in the northern part of the state.

Neither man had an attorney listed in federal court records. It was unclear if they are related.

The victim, identified only by the initials D.B., said someone yelled racial slurs as he walked away from the store. Robert Lashley hit D.B. in the face while running towards him.

Roy Lashley hit D.B. with an ax handle as he lay on the ground. According to the arrest records, Lashley was charged with resisting law enforcement after he got into a confrontation with the sheriff's office.

There is a maximum 10-year prison sentence for federal hate crime charges.
