Robert Smigel, best known for his role as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and six other staffers from "The Late Show" with Stephen Colbert were arrested for entering the US Capitol illegally.

According to a statement from CBS, a group of seven staffers were on the Capitol grounds filming interviews for an upcoming comedy segment on "The Late Show."

According to a statement from CBS, their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged.

In a statement to Insider, the US Capitol Police said that when they responded to a call about a fight, they saw people without Congressional ID in a hallway.

A group of people were charged with unlawful entry after being told to leave the building earlier in the day.

Smigel and other members of the group did not reply to Insider's questions.

Since 2016 Triumph the Comic Dog has been appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

"This is an active criminal investigation and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney," the statement read.
