Cubs escape bases-loaded jam to snap 10-game skid, end Braves' win streak (0:37)

The Cubs became the first team since 1999 to beat a team with a winning streak and a losing streak in the same season. There is a time and a place for this.

The Cubs became the first team in 23 years to stop a losing streak of 10 or more games when they beat the Braves.

The Cubs have lost 10 in a row, the longest skid in the majors this season and their longest since last August.

The Braves' 14-game win streak was snapped by a one-run loss to the Marlins, making them the first team to have a 14-game win streak snapped by a one-run loss in the last four years.

After striking out in his first three at-bats, Morel got some advice from Willson.

It helped me concentrate on what I needed to do, what to focus on with that tough lefty. "He told me not to look for things low around the plate." Don't look low.

The Astros had a 12-game winning streak end in the same game as Philadelphia's 11-game skid.

The last time Chicago won was against Cincinnati. The Braves lost for the second time this year after a loss at Milwaukee.

Jonathan Villar was walked by Minter in the eighth. He advanced on Simmons' sacrifice, stole third without a throw and scored on Morel's fly to center with a steady wind blowing in at Wrigley Field.

Villar slid home headfirst as Michael Harris II threw the ball up the first base line.

Chris Martin pitched a perfect eighth for the Cubs, who wore dark blue jerseys and pants with blue letters.

The Braves loaded the bases against David Robertson in the ninth but failed to score. Robertson got his eighth save in 10 chances, finishing off a two-hitter on a day both teams combined for just five hits.

Atlanta hadn't lost since May 31 at Arizona. The Braves' 14-game win streak was the longest by any team this season and the third longest by a defending World Series champ.

When you're in the middle of the month, the first loss in June is a good thing.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said that their game is to get the ball in the air.

Thompson, coming off poor outings at Baltimore and the New York Yankees, struck out a career-high nine while allowing two hits and two walks in six-plus flawless frames.

Thompson thinks there was a conscious effort to throw more pitches. I haven't had a lot of damage done off the four-seamer this year and I've gotten away from it the last two outings.

Mychal Givens struck out Arcia with two on the board.

In the sixth, he missed a home run off the left-center wall. The left fielder played the ball well and held the man to a single.
